1. Should public officials use opinion surveys to determine what policies are most popular and adopt those policies?

Answer 1

I think that should be part of the mix. We elect people to public office to further the interests of their constituents, not their own interests. And opinion surveys are one way for those elected officials to determine what are the interests of their constituents. But that should be only one of many inputs to their decision-making process.
