Soula has 90 meters of fencing to enclose an area in a petting zoo with two dividers to separate three types of young animals. The three pens have the same area. Express the area function for the three pens in terms of x.

x = the length of the 3 small areas

y = the width of the 3 small areas

4x + 6y = 90

4x - 4x +6y = 90 - 4x

6y = 90 - 4x

y = (90 - 4x)/6

Area of the one of the three small rectangles, A=xy  <=>x(90-4x)/6

Area of the the sum of the three small rectangles, A=x(3y)= (x(90-4x)/6)*3= ½x(90-4x)
