Find the quotient Q(x) and remainder R(x) when the polynomial P(x) is divided by the polynomial D(x).

Dividing 2x² + x - 27 by x-4 yields 2X + 9 and a remainder of 9

Q(x) = 2x+9

R(x) = 9

Hi Alexia,

There is two methods that you can find the quotient and reminder.

first: D(X) = 0 ---->x - 4 = 0 ----->x = 4

4	2	1	-27
		2*4= 8	9*4=36
	2	8+1= 9	36 + (-27) = 9

First row is coefficient of given expression P(x)

Third row represents the coefficients of quotient and last item 9 is remainder

p(x) = D(x) q(x) + r(x)

2x² + x -27 = ( x-4 ) ( 2x + 9 ) + 9

if this method works for you another method doesn't need.
