2) 60x-84=12x*5x-12*6

 

3) 42x+28y=7x*6x+4y*7y

 

I am stumped on (2) &(3)

12(5x - 7) = 12(5x² - 6)                 Divide both sides by 12

5x - 7 = 5x² - 6

0 = 5x² - 5x + 1                            This can be solved with the quadratic formula

 

3)

The greatest common factor for 42 and 28 is 7.

 

7(6x + 4y) = 7(6x² + 4y²)              Divide both sides by 7

6x + 4y = 6x² + 4y²                       This cannot be solved.

 

The directions say only "factor."
