asked 03/24/20What is the length of each piece of rope
Maria has a length of rope that is 5 1/3 yards long. She cuts off 2 feet of rope. She cuts the remaining rope into 8 pieces of equal length to use to tie her tomato plants to garden. What is the length of each piece of rope that she uses to tie her tomato plants

First , recall that 3 feet is equivalent to 1 yard. Therefore, 5 1/3 yards of rope is equal to 16 feet.
NOTE: 5 and 1/3 yards in fraction form is 16/3. Then 16 /3 * 3 = 16 feet
Since she cut off 2 feet, you would have 14 feet remaining to cut into 8 pieces.
Now divide 14 feet by 8 to determine the length of each piece: 14 feet/8 = 1 and 3/4 feet
Each piece will be 1 and 3/4 feet long.
