If we are assuming the scale is 1 in = 5 feet, the first thing we would want to do is either find the area in inches or you can convert to feet and then find the area. Either way you need to do both of these steps. I'm going to do the 2nd way:
Length -> 2.5 in = 2.5 x 5 = 12.5 ft
Width -> 3 in = 3 x 5 = 15 ft
12.5 x 15 = 187.5 ft2
You'll get the same answer by doing it the other way too
Length x width = 2.5 x 3 = 7.5
7.5 ft2 x 25 = 187.5 ft2
*I bet you are wondering why I multiplied by 25. just because I multiply the length and the width together, doesn't mean that I can get rid of a 5, both numbers still need to be converted. In order to take into account both factors in the problem, the 5 in had to be squared to get 25.

The actual area of the living room is 3 x 2.5 inches which gives you 7.5 inches.
Scale factor : 2 (Because you are doubling it for the blueprint)
Actual Area: 7.5 inches
Scale drawing: 15ft
Value of ratio of the scale drawing area to the actual area:
15/7.5 = 2
