A bartender slides a beer mug at 1.0 m/s towards a customer at the end of a frictionless bar that is 1.1 m tall. The customer makes a grab for the mug and misses, and the mug sails off the end of the bar.

I am assuming (not advisable in most situations) that the question is "how far horizontally from the bar dege does the mug land?" Here is how to answer this question.
Analyze the vertical motion first.
initial vertical velocity, v0y = 0m/s
vertical displacement, y = 1.1m
vertical acceleration = g = 9.8m/s2
Using y = vot + 1/2 at2
1.1 = 0 + 0.5(9.8)t2
t = 0.47s
Now the horizontal distance can be found by multiplying the horizontal velocity (which remains constant) with the time.
x = vxt
x = 1.0(0.47) = 0.47m
