The distance formula is simply the square root of (x1-x2)2 + (y1-y2)2 and the midpoint is just the average of the values. So, distance is sqr((3--1)2 + (3-0)2 which gives us 5.
the midpoint is (-1 + 3 /2, 0+3 .2) or (1,1.5)
