Due to conservation of momentum, and both balls moving south, you can use the equation m1v1 + m2v2 = m1v'1 + m2v'2, where:
m1 = 1.5 kg
m2 = 2 kg
v1 = 8 m/s
v2 = 3 m/s
v'2 = 4.5 m/s
Then solve for v'1.
v'1 = (m1v1 + m2v2 - m2v'2)/m1, (plug and chug).
Your answer will be, ___ m/s south, (velocity has both magnitude and direction).
