asked 12/19/19Impeachment process
if the house votes to impeach and the senate doesn’t convict, does that mean the term the president is in right now will be nullified and he can run for office twice?

No an impeachment does not nullify the term of a presidency. Even if a President is in office for his/her 1st term and is impeached & removed from office, they could run again but would only be able to serve one additional term. The term conditions for a presidency are highlighted in 22nd amendment.

Nixon would have been convicted of high crimes & misdemeanors by the House and had fallen out of favor with the senate which means he likely would have been removed from office. Resigning allowed him to earn a pension that former presidents receive, whereas if removed from office he would not have been entitled to any retirement compensation.12/27/19

Impeachment entails an allegation and a charge. An impeachment without conviction has no legal effect; it only makes an impression on the impressionable voters. Even if there is a conviction, removal is a separate issue, and being barred from office is a separate vote. In any case, there is no such thing as nullifying a president's term.12/22/19
