Let X = number of quarters
Let Y = number of nickels
The total number of coins are the number of quarters plus the number of nickels:
X + Y = 97
Let the value of quarters = 0.25(X)
Let the value of nickels = 0.05(Y)
The total value of all 97 coins:
0.25X + 0.05Y = 11.65
Use substitution to find X then plug in your value of X into either equation to find the value of Y.
