Hi Sam,
I think the first thing we would need to determine, is if you have read or know about the story of Rip Van Winkle and which Martin Luther King Jr. speech you are examining. I believe I already know which speech you may be looking at, however, but I would like to know more information! if we had a chance to talk, I would explore that with you first, and then encourage you to make some connections to Martin Luther King Jr.'s speech.
Let me start you off: in Rip Van Winkle, the protagonist sleeps through a very important event. Do you think that might have a connection to the particular Martin Luther King Jr. speech you are examining? I bet it might. If you have not read Rip Van Winkle, it is written by author, Washington Irving, and you should definitely read it before continuing with your work.
I hope I have sparked some thoughts and encouraged you. I will be following the question in case you would like further clarification. Good luck!
