2x+3x+(-14) = 34+2x-14
combine like terms on each side of the equation
5X - 14 = 2x +20
Combine like terms on opposite sides of the equation to isolate x
Add 14 to both sides to get
5x = 2x +34
Subtract 2x from both sides
3x = 34
reduce
x=11 1/3 (I used a fraction instead of decimals because of infinite repeating: 11.333333 etc.)
check
(5*11 1/3)-14 = 34 + (2*11 1/3) - 14
56 2/3 - 14 = 34 + 22 2/3 - 14
56 2/3 - 14 = 56 2/3 - 14
42 2/3 = 42 2/3
