One number is 5 less than another. Five times the smaller number is 1 less than 3 times the larger number. What are the two numbers?

Smaller number x

 

x = y/5

 

5x = 3y - 1 ------> y = 3y - 1 -----> 1 = 2y

 

y = 1/2 = 0.5

 

x = 0.5/5 = 0.1
