To find the area of a rectangle, we multiply length times width:
A = L * W
we know that the length is 4 times the width:
length = 4 * w
we Can substutute that in for our area equation for L:
A =( 4 * w) * w
now plug in 196 for area and solve:
196 = (4*w)*w
196=4w2
/4. /4
√49 = √w2
7 = w
so our width is 7inches. To find the length, multiply the width by 4:
7*4=28 inches
