a rectangular parcel of land is 70ft longer than It is wide. Each diagonal between opposite corner is 130ft. What are the dimensions of parcel?

Answer 1

The diagonals are equal so it is a rectangle.  The width is w and the length is w + 70.  Use the Pythagorean theorem and solve w^2 (w + 70)^2 = 130^2 and get  w = 50.

So the width is 50 ft. and the length is (50 + 70) ft or 120 ft.
