Competent Licensed Child Disorder Counselor, and Certified Elem/ESE ED
Hello there,
I graduated from Dowling College with a 3.8 GPA in Elementary and Special Education and minor in Speech. I also hold a Masters in Psychology with an emphasis on childhood disorders and trauma. After graduating in 2010, I accepted a position in NY, as a SIP teacher. The following year, I was asked if to take over an ESE classroom, which consisted of students with behavioral and emotional disorders.
Education has always been my passion, I believe that each student has the ability to learn, but not each educator has the ability to inspire and teach all students.
Students that have special needs, require an educator who has acquired the dispositions of empathy and patience. When a child has special needs, patience is a virtue. Students with special requirements an educator that renders each the ability to complete simple tasks with extended time; Where understanding is key for development. No matter how long it takes, all educators and definitely special education teachers must provide a child time to complete the task. Having a good sense of humor will help along the way.
Since each child has unique learning styles, a special education teacher must possess the ability to adapt lessons that work with the strengths of each child. In certain circumstances, students may perform well but have social interaction difficulties. Others may not be able to execute basic speaking or motor skills. While designing daily activities and plans for the classroom, a teacher must achieve creativity, in order to accommodate all students’ needs. Each disability manifests differently in each and may require time to deal with outbursts or other roadblocks. Educators for special needs students must bring each lesson to life, break down the material to simpler concepts and allow each the time and ability to comprehend the material.
Special education teachers must hold competency to employ a multitude of different skills. that is dissimilar to the traditional educators. ESE educators play a vital role in the education and lives of their students.
As a highly effective ESE educator, I provide a learning environment that ensures each has the ability to feel safe, create an atmosphere that is calming to reduce anxiety and promote one’s learning abilities. When a teacher possesses these virtues, special needs students are sure to thrive.

As an elementary math professional who is used to seeing children with language disabilities, attention issues or sequential processing issues or trauma, I am very kind and patient and confident that the child will progess with the right tools provided and safe learning environment based on mutual trust and respect.

Skilled, effective tutoring the way YOU learn!
I have taught many students with all kinds of special needs. In fact, I am currently teaching students with learning disabilities in math, reading, writing, auditory processing, language processing, reading comprehension and attention deficits as well as students on the autistic spectrum. I don't necessarily insist that the parent recognize their child's diagnosis since I generally find that a diagnosis doesn't tell me anything useful about the child. The essence of special education is that every child is an individual with his or her own specific strengths and weaknesses and each one deserves to be treated with respect and consideration as I help them recognize that what used to be difficult can now become easy.
