I think there is something wrong with this question. As I am sketching it, moving the directrix vertically up would move it close to the focus.
If you move the directrix closer to the focus, the p distance would be smaller, the distance across the parabola would also be smaller. The parabola would be more narrow.
The reverse is also true. If you move the directrix further away from the focus, the p distance would be larger, the distance across the parabola would also be larger. The parabola would be wider.
