Do universities still teach obsolete languages like COBOL, Fortran, PL/1, and Pascal? If so, WHY?

Enterprise COBOL is far from being obsolete. COBOL, High-level Assembler, and other mainframe-based applications are being ran by some of the largest companies in the world. If you've used a debit or credit card, checked your bank account, filed an insurance claim, or some other seemingly routine daily task, you've likely encountered a transaction that was processed by a mainframe system.
