1)Given (x,y)=(2,3),(4,4) and (6,5). These points are on the line, so the first thing you do is to find the slope of the line between two given points. m = Y2-Y1/X2-X1 m = (4-3)/(4-2)= 1/2 , so m =1/2
2) I am going to use point -slope form of the equation to find the answer y-y1= m (x-x1) and I am going to select (2,3) as x1 and y1, you can select any other two points.
y- 3= 1/2( x-2) Distributive property
3) y- 3= 1/2 x- 1
4) Writing the equation in this form AX+BY=C or AX+BY-C=0
Y-1/2 X= -1+3
Y-1/2X =2 Eliminating the denominator or multiplying every term by 2 , I got:
5) 2y - x =4. Answer in standard form.
Note: to verify your answer , Isolate Y and graph the function in the form of y =mx+b and verity the interceptions and will notice that when x=2, y=3, and (4, 4), (6,5) are on the line.
y= 1/2x +2. Graph this equation using Ti-84 or demos graphing calculator (free online), then press 2nd graph and you will see the points (2,3), (4,4) and (6,5) on the table.
I hope this explanation erase any doubt.
