One of the main traits of invasive species are that they are niche generalists. Invasive species, once in a new habitat, can survive under a wide variety of conditions. If they are animals, they can typically survive on a wide variety of food sources. A prime example of this would be feral pigs in the southern United States, which eat many types of food, not just one. The common reed, Phragmites, is invasive and can survive in many different environments, ranging from roadside ditches to riverbanks to the interior of swamps.
