Snail's body quickly dries out when the moisture content in the atmosphere is too low or its too cold outside. So, they hibernate in this period to prevent water loss from their body. When the environment is warm again, a snail becomes active and it secretes mucus all over its body, so that it can move around easily. The mucus that is secreted works best in the wet conditions that helps them in easy locomotory movements. During rain when it is wet or humid outside, a snail needs to secrete less mucus than it usually does, for this it needs to spend less energy. Hence, more the rain, faster the snails move.
