I am not sure how much your teacher has gone into the development of magnetic and electric fields which would help further explain the phenomenon of electro-magnetic forces and their distinct difference. While an electric force is independent of a charge's velocity and direction, the magnetic force is created perpendicular to the charge's direction.
A basic statement is to relate induction (inductors) to the creation and collapse of magnetic fields / force, and capacitance (capacitors) maintain a charge of electric potential so you can generate current, an electric pulse with discharged.
