This statement is True. An Identity is an equation that is true for all values (of x). An Equation is only true for certain values (of x). For example:
tan(x) = sin(x)/cos(x) is an identity (and also an equation) because it is true for any value of x.
tan(x) = 1 is an equation (and not an identity) because it is only true for certain values of x.
