Adaptive immune responses are carried out by white blood cells called lymphocytes. There are two types of lymphocytes, B-cells and T-cells. Each of them induce different types of responses.

Pl note- Substances that are capable of eliciting an adaptive immune response are called antigens.

Phagocytes are specialized white blood cells that kill pathogens and initiate an immune response. They display the ingested pathogen to the B cells or memory cells which help the body "remember" the pathogen in the future.
