Is animating with CSS more verbose than animating with JQuery?

It depends on the complexity of what you are trying to animate. In most cases no and CSS is lighter and cleaner to use when possible and supported by most if not all devices. JQuery can be more heavy and cause you page to run slow depending on where the code is placed and the size.
