Usually ratios are intrinsic measures of a substance characteristic
Density is mass of substance per volume of that mass.
Densities would be the same this was the Eureka on how to determine if all the gold assigned to the crown actually ended up in the crown. Although how the rubies and alloying for hardness was tackled in the experiment in the bathtub observation connects to golds density is I'm sure more complex.
