A.Fish and shellfish with Multi-year Life Cycle That Die After Spawning :
The classic example is The Pacific salmon ( Oncorhynchus spp.) with a Multi-year and with Single Spawning( semelparous)
Other examples are:
1.Eels ( some Anguilla spp.) - The European eel( Anguilla anguilla) and American eel( A.rostrata)
2.Lampreys - some lampreys like the sea lampreys( Petromyzon marinus)
3.Some Cephalopods - (octopus, squid,cuttle fish)
4.Some Pacific cods and other rare marine species- certain species exhibit almost semelparous
traits, but it's uncommon.
5.Shell fishes( less common) - true semelparity is rare among commercially exploited shellfish.
-- Some squid- like cephalopods often harvested commercially, show semelparity.
B.How rare is this strategy among human - exploited species ?
Among fish and shellfish commercially exploited by humans, semelparity is the exception, not the
rule. Salmon, eels, lampreys, and cephalopods are the main examples.
