Great news! You can actually use CSS3 in emails now!
Here's the tricky part. It's not that you can't use CSS3.
It's more the fact that client (email parser) are very different from vendor to vendor.
I.E. Gmail has different rules than Microsoft Outlook about how to read the HTML in the email.
Being that everyone does this different it becomes a HUGE design challenge to deliver a consistent experience across the thousands of different devices and implementations of client readers.
A common strategy is to have all your CSS style work be able to "degrade gracefully" in the event that there is in fact no CSS3 support. So you end up kind of having to make many decisions for sometimes not a lot of payoff.
The question you should ask yourself is :
What CSS3 features do I actually need to accomplish my business goals?
What benefits do I get from actually spending my time implementing this solution?
