Is it worth learning HTML and CSS if I'm not planning on learning very advanced things? I want to be able to code simple websites, but I don’t want to be a professional.

Sure it is!

HTML and CSS alone is actually not enough when learning how to become a professional in the web development industry. Learning HTML and CSS puts you right were you need to be for a beginner. Adding a little Javascript to make your page interactive wouldn't hurt either!
