Master's in Nuclear Astrophysics: all 4 years were done in Fortran
This is a very long question to answer...!!!
There are so many parts to building this program and also, the hard part about programming is solving the problems and errors when they arise.
One of the programs I built in my Master's in Nuclear Astrophysics was the merging of two black holes, which were orbiting each other and slowly combined.
This sounds similar to yours.
We had to use General Relativity to compute the orbits and then plot onto a 3d graph to show the merging.
Do you have any direction or instructions for the steps?
