You are on the right track in this answer. Think about the Google definition of the word in context to Lolita. It is not necessarily that Humbert only acknowledges his own existence, but that his unique existence is the only experience that can be truly known to him. He does not deny the existence of other characters, such as Lolita, but he does not know their "self" the way he knows his own. He is the only one who experiences life in the way that he does, therefore his "self" is all that can be known to exist for him.
