The computer science definition of an input device is any hardware device that allows the user to send data to or interact with a computer. To translate this into chemistry, there are several spectroscopic devices used in the chemistry field to allow chemists to interact with a computer. Some examples include a pH meter, Mass Spectrometer, Uv-Vis Spectrometer, and NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance). All of these are hardware devices that provide information to a software program on a computer.
