When we shrink a logarithmic statement like this into one expression there are a couple things to remember
- Subtraction of logarithms is the same as dividing
- log x - log y is equivalent to log x/y
- Addition is the same as multiplication
- log x + log y is equivalent to log (xy)
- Multiplying is the same as raising to a power
- X log y is equivalent to log yx
So to compress this into one logarithmic statement we can start by combining the subtraction part:
loga U - loga V + 2 loga W = loga (U/V) + 2 loga W
Now we can compress the 2 loga W part
loga (U/V) + 2 loga W = loga (U/V) + loga W2
And to finish we can write the U and W2 part as multiplication
loga (U/V) + loga W2 = loga (UW2/V)
