a Horizontal force of 30N is applied to a 25kg block lying on a horizontal surface. find the acceleration of the block if the coefficient of kinetic friction is 0.15

Say the horizontal applied force acts to the right on the block.  The frictional force opposes the motion so it will point to the left.

 

 

By Newton's 2nd law, F_net = F_app - F_fric = ma.

 

 

F_fric = μ_kN = μ_kW = μ_kmg since the normal force, N, balances the weight, W.

 

 

F_app - μ_kmg = ma

 

 

Solve for the acceleration, a.
