Linear programming is pretty much a standalone class. However, it is a very useful subject which can solve many problems; problems where you are trying to maximize or minimize a linear function of variables where these variables are subject to linear constraints. I used this technique in a banking application where I minimized the cost of funding the banks purchased money portfolio subject to constraints such as liquidity and debt to equity ratio.
Yes, this topic is a key foundation to many useful application. But it is not a theoretical foundation for subjects to follow.. Hope this helps. Terry.
