Both Kafka's "Metamorphosis" and Henley's "INVICTUS" deal with motifs of the absurd and the grotesque. Both Gregor Samsa and Henley's persona struggle to feel connected to the rest of humanity and instead identify with the darkness that both of them view as central to their own experience. Even though Samsa and the persona are grappling with similar motifs, they respond in different ways and ultimately achieve vastly different results.
