That is not the definition of "linear equation". Nor is it true that the equation of a straight line necessarily has two variables.

So why did you ask the question?

Lola L.

So it is a linear equation? I don't know what linear equation have to look like to be true?

A linear equation has two variables - usually an x and a y - and is of the first degree - all exponents are one.

One form of a linear equation is the slope intercept form: y = mx + b.
Another form is the standards form: Ax + By = C.

If a given equation can be transformed into one of the forms above, it is a linear equation.

The word linear means that the graph of the equation is a line (straight).
