There are many ways data is gathered on the subject of habitat loss. Displaced individuals or entire groups of wildlife is often one way habitat loss is tracked. Certain groups of wildlife, such as frogs, birds or certain fly pupa sp., that are especially sensitive to changes in habitat (including pollutants, sediment in water or loss of certain other species of insects) will be tracked regularly. Since habitat loss can change on a chemical level, water and soil testing would be included in this data collecting as well. Changes in chemical, mineral or acidity will create habitat loss for certain species in that zone. There is a couple for you and I hope that is helpful.
