Great question. I'm sure there are quite a few options for this but I recommend Irfanview. A wonderful and completely free graphic viewer. It's simple to use, stable, and fast. It has simple editing features, and can open and convert to nearly any graphics format and the best thing is it's excellent batch editing function. It can very quickly batch rename, convert, or both, and either overwrite your original file or make a copy. Besides batch adding watermarks (found under the "Advanced" options under "Batch Conversion" you can also use it to batch crop, change color depth, rotate, flip, and more.
Get it at https://www.irfanview.com/ (I have no affiliation with them).

Granted you already own Adobe Software, you can do this with Adobe Lightroom. If not, please describe what operating system you are using.
