I'd say that it needs to remain generic, since it is a legal designation and therefore needs to be clearly indicated. You can put it in a different color but I wouldn't put anything like a gradient or something that. Also, it can't be too small (like 4pt) and I'd keep it in a sans-serif font like Helvetica, Arial, Open Sans, Roboto, etc.. Basically it needs to be easily legible. Hope this helps!

You can change the TM symbol, most fonts will include a TM glyph in the special symbols. Be sure that it is legible however, over styling can make it harder to recognize. Keep it on the smaller size, the bigger the logo gets the smaller proportionately the symbol can be.12/31/19
