The best way to become involved is to become aware of the issues facing your community and following up. For example, a local paper or news radio station might share there's going to be a meeting over a local park to include a venue for skateboarders. Do some research on what the meeting will entail as well as the pros and cons. Finally, attend the meeting and share your viewpoints if comments from the community are permitted. This simple process also works great for city council meetings, school board meetings, etc. People often forget a lot of their day-to-day lives is affected by decisions made at the local level and it pays to attend those events.
Another good way to is become involved in a local campaign. This is made easier if you go through the local chapter of your political party who can connect you with a volunteer or campaign manager.
