Sometimes when we are typing or editing our document in Microsoft Word 2007, it suddenly becomes read only. That means we cannot type, erase, or change anything anymore because it is like the paper is locked. When that happens, we can try a few simple steps. First, click File then Save As, and save the document again using a different name like MyWork2.docx. This will make a new copy that we can edit. Second, check if the file is still open somewhere else, maybe we opened it twice or someone else is also using it, so we need to close the other one first. Third, look at where the file is saved. If it is in a flash drive, network, or email attachment, it can sometimes become read only. Try saving it on the desktop first and then open it again. If all else fails, restart the computer because sometimes Word just needs to rest too. When a document becomes read only, there is no need to panic. It just means it is locked for now, and we can fix it by saving it again or checking where it is stored.
