Shane was capable of removing 125 lbs of dirt per hour and Indervir was capable of removing 100 lbs of dirt per hour. How long would it take the two working together to complete the hole? (hours)

Shane can remove 125 lbs of dirt each hour, and Indervir can remove 100 lbs of dirt each hour.

 

That means, working together, they can remove 125 + 100 = 225 lbs of dirt each hour.

 

To figure out how many hours it would take to remove all 1000 pounds of dirt, we divide it by our result from before

 

Therefore, it would take 1000/225 = 40/9 = 4 and 4/9 hours
