Now known as the light independent reaction. The light dependent reaction produces the chemical energy (ATP and NADPH) used for powering the CO2 fixation (Calvin Cycle) in the light independent reaction. This process produces a 3 carbon sugar which can be used to form glucose, other sugars, and other organic molecules used by a plant.
