Let x be the weight of the pineapple and y = the weight of the orange;
- A pineapple is 7 times as heaven as an orange: x = 7y
- The pineapple also weighs 870 grams more than the Orange: x = y + 870
Since both equations equal x, we can set them equal:
7y = y + 870
6y = 870
y = 145 grams (weight of the orange)
x = 7y = 1015 grams (weight of the pineapple)
Check:
x = y + 870
1015 = 145 + 870
1015 = 1015
