Since both equations equal x, we can set them equal:

 

7y = y + 870

 

6y = 870

 

y = 145 grams  (weight of the orange)

 

x = 7y = 1015 grams (weight of the pineapple)

x = y + 870

1015 = 145 + 870

1015 = 1015
