Similarity between Salut in French and Salaam in Arabic?

I noticed a similarity between the word _**Salut**_ in French and the word _**سلام**_ in Arabic which is pronounced _**Salaam**_ and they both mean "safety and well-being" and are both used as a general greeting to mean "hello". But Salut comes from Latin which I don't think is related to Arabic in any way. How can that be possible then?

Salut is also in Latin , it means be safe. In Arabic when we say Salam سلام , it means peace. We use it to say hello and good bye.

We also use another expression: maa alsalama مع السلامة for good bye which means:" with safety"
