How to apply develop settings to multiple images at once in Lightroom?

I'm in the Develop module in Lightroom 3. The secondary monitor shows a grid with multiple photos selected. When I change a develop setting, e.g. exposure +1, the setting is only applied to one of the selected photos (the one shown on the primary monitor). Is there a way to make Lightroom 3 apply the change to all photos selected in the grid?

No, not automatically, except by using Sync or Auto Sync. If you select multiple photographs and are in Develop module you will see these options in the bottom right. I've edited hundreds of thousands of photographs in LR and have NEVER had a time when auto sync actually saved me time. The problem with it is it's own functionality. You'll forget it's on and accidently edit stuff you don't mean to.

If you want to try it, make sure to not do it on a set of pictures you have already invested time in.
