You approximate where they fall on the number line.

1²=1

2²=4

3²=9

        <--------√10 (10 is closer to 9 than 16, so plot a point very close to 3) (√10≈3.16)

4²=16

5²=25

         <--------√30 (30 is about in the middle between 25 and 36, so plot a point about in the middle between 5 and 6)(√30≈5.477)

6²=36

7²=49

          <--------√50 (50 is close to 49, so plot a point very close to 7;√50≈7.071)

           <--------√60 (60 is 11 away from 49 but only 4 away from 64 so plot a point about 1/4 the distance from 8 between 7 and 8 because you have 11+4=15, almost 16 units;√60≈7.7459)

8²=64
