I would say: Both have the same meaning. "al-Lahumma" is more formal.
My bests!

Good questions. Lets address the one with Ya AlKArim
the letter of invocation/ Nidaa ya يا also defines whatever is invoked. Because you know whom you're calling.
so when we add Ya يا we cannot use the definite article ال Al. That would be double definite.
so AlKareem will be called ya Kareem. just as Ar Rajol الرجل will be called Ya Rajol يارجل.
so You're correct the Ya takes out the Al from the names of Allah, with the exception of the name Allah.
That's because Allah isn't compounded/ Murakkab from a root word. So Al wasnt added to it. That's just a part of the word.it is a special case. you can't even get derivatives from it nor can you add prefixes or suffixes.
As far as ya Allah and Allahumma. They mean the same thing. No prefrence.
Some linguists say that when we take the Ya out, it is replaced with this م M which is read Allaahumma
There are other explanations for it. I was trying to record a video to answer, but I couldn't for some reason. So perhaps you'll find the answer, or I can share it on another occasion.
Ya Allah means Oh, Allah! and is used:
- as if to say "Oh My God!" (day-to-day social custom in some Middle Eastern countries)
It can also be used towards the endpoint of Islamic supplication, or during the begining parts of prayer, when a worshipper is calling on their Lord. It's usually said from a place of yearning/longing (depends on the supplication, as well.)
Allahuma means "Oh Allah," and is used to begin Islamic supplications, when a worshipper is asking God for something. This one is usually said as a means to end (a component of the prayer), but is not always the case.
